Converting a Word document to a Rich Text file (RTF)
If you do not own your own copy of Microsoft Word, you can still use The Report King to create your school reports. Detailed below are two methods of converting a Word document into a Rich Text file that The Report King can read by itself. In fact, The Report King actually produces rich text reports considerably faster than it does Word documents.
For the first method, you will need access to a computer that has Microsoft Word installed on it. For the second, you will need to install a copy of OpenOffice.org on your computer. OpenOffice.org is a free suite of programs that provide (roughly) the same facilities as Microsoft Office, including a word processor, a spreadsheet, a presentation program and more. As OpenOffice.org is able to directly read and write Microsoft documents, you can use the word processor to convert a Microsoft Word document to a rich text file. The suite is an open source project and is available for free download from www.openoffice.org.
Once either of these processes is complete, you can produce reports from a computer that does not have Microsoft Word installed on. Remember, these will be saved as rich text files, not as Word documents themselves.
